Bonnie and Clyde
James references the notorious crime partners Bonnie and Clyde. Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow were American outlaws traveling through the United States during the Great Depression. They mainly robbed small stores and rural gas stations, committing multiple murders. Their exploits captured the imagination of the American media, and their romanticized crime spree lives on through movies and songs. Bonnie and Clyde were ambushed by police and shot dead in Louisiana in 1934, having killed at least nine police officers and four civilians. After torching Bruce’s office in the Navy Building, James worries J. Edgar Hoover and the FBI have similar plans for the Clypeate’s fate.
