George Washington’s Military Rank
As commanding general during the American Revolution and commander-in-chief while president, nobody has, or ever will, outrank George Washington. In The Hesperus Prophecy, Washington uses his superior rank as an advantage, creating a Continental Army contingent within the US Army of his most loyal, honorable soldiers. Their mission is to protect democracy and freedom, with their secret name, Clypeate, known to only a handful of outsiders.
During Washington’s lifetime, Congress passed a law to elevate his military rank to “General of the Armies of the United States”, but Washington died before it could be enacted. Therefore, until 1976 it was simply custom that no United States military officer could outrank George Washington. However, in honor of the US bicentennial, George Washington was posthumously promoted to a Six-Star General. This newly created grade ranks Washington above all other officers of the Army, past or present, even higher than other presidents, guaranteeing his remnant of the Continental Army, the Clypeate, remains permanently embedded in the US Army.
