Muir Woods
While traveling through the Analytical Engine Room for the first time, Declan compares the towering machines to the redwoods in Muir Woods. Declan visited Muir Woods while presenting research at a biology conference in San Francisco.
Just north of San Francisco, near the Golden Gate Bridge, Muir Woods contains 240 acres of coastal redwoods (Sequoia sempervirens). This evergreen species can live 2,200 years and includes the tallest living trees, reaching nearly 400 feet and 30 feet in diameter.
Objectively, ALVA’s machine towers aren’t nearly as tall as these redwoods, but the comparison helps us understand the professor’s impression of the Analytical Engine Room’s scale.
