Newtonian Physics

Newtonian physics describes the physical laws of motion and gravity we observe every day. Also known as classical mechanics, Sir Isaac Newton’s equations are used to calculate the motion of objects under the influence of forces.

James and Declan refer to Sir Isaac Newton’s laws when discussing the Sanctuary’s ceiling pushing down on the Epistolith, where the forces don’t seem to balance. Director Bowen is content trusting the Epistolith’s power without understanding the science, although the others wonder how the floating object supports the massive Washington Monument.

Without specific answers, they must assume an object as powerful as the Epistolith doesn’t rely on Newtonian physics, instead requiring theories beyond Einstein’s relativity.
