Thor’s Hammer and the Axyn Kirox

In The Hesperus Prophecies, the Norse legend of Thor’s hammer, or the Mjölnir, is loosely based on the Axyn Kirox. While Thor’s hammer can be used as a weapon or an instrument of divine blessing, the Axyn Kirox’s capabilities, other than a key to unlocking the Epistolith’s knowledge, are much less understood.

You can see from Declan’s drawing of the Axyn Kirox why James has a hard time telling if the object looks more like a mushroom or a toilet plunger.

In Norse mythology, Thor’s hammer is made by dwarves, and the handle is cut short by Loki’s interference. Similar in size and equally powerful, the Axyn Kirox’s creation is also otherworldly but with more nebulous origins.
