Tommy Guns - the Weapon of Choice

The Thompson submachine gun, aka Tommy Gun, was designed by US Army Brigadier General John Thompson, in 1918. While designed for use in the trench warfare of World War I, it was also sold to the general public. Because of its wide adoption by criminals, the Tommy Gun became synonymous with 1920s Prohibition-era crime syndicates. The Tommy Gun was used both by law enforcement and criminals, making it the likely gun of choice for J Edgar’s FBI agents to mow down James, Bruce, and Declan if they emerged from the Jefferson Pier.
