General Malin Craig, U.S. Army Chief of Staff

Malin Craig served as the 14th Chief of Staff of the United States Army from 1935 to 1939. In The Hesperus Prophecy, he informs Director Harold Bowen about the MS Schwabenland’s voyage, asking for an opinion on addressing the threat. This sets in motion the Clypeate’s mission to Antarctica and the search for the Declan of prophecy.

Craig served as president of the Army War College until 1935, when he became Chief of Staff of the United States Army, the U.S. Army’s highest military position. In addition to keeping the Secretary of the Army updated, the Chief of Staff develops and enforces army policies and plans. With WW II looming, Craig stressed Army preparedness of personnel and supplies.

When Director Bowen gets a highly illegal copy of the U.S. Army’s Intelligence Police report about the SS Valencia, meant only for Chief of Staff Craig, he knows this is a treasonous act yet one that must be committed.
